SUMMARY:May Monthly Meeting - Basic Photo Editing
DESCRIPTION:A picture is worth a thousand words. And with the range of editing software and technology available on the market today\, you might say photos have increased their worth a thousand-fold. A nicely edited photo could be worth a million words (or a million dollars\, in some cases)! \n\n\n\nHalf the battle when it comes to good photography lies in editing. Blips\, wrinkles\, shadows\, blurs and even colors can all be altered so realistically an objective viewer would not be the wiser. In other words\, a bad photograph can be transformed\, and bad photos can be salvaged\, to a point! Magic can be created with a few clicks of the mouse or swipes of the tablet. \n\n\n\nPlease join us as we walk you through basic editing to enhance your photos. In this presentation we will be using and showing you H0W TO USE SNAPSEED TO ENHANCE AND EDIT YOUR PHOTOS – Added bonus – The software is free! The tools found in Snapseed are similar to other editing software and we ill discuss the similarities.Snapseed is a free photo editing app that comes loaded with image manipulation tools and presets that are quite easy to use. The app is supported by Google\, which is a plus when it comes to quality and reputation. The app allows you to edit and fine-tune things like brightness\, saturation\, contrast\, curves\, shadows\, and much more—giving you a surprising amount of control over the final look of your photos.Where to download Snapseed.Snapseed works with Android and iOS and can be downloaded in the Google Play or Apple App Store for your iPhone\, Android\, iPad\, tablet\, etc. You can also download the Snapseed desktop app for PC or Mac online for free. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6:30 pm

SUMMARY:2024 Spring Photo Show
DESCRIPTION:The Haldimand Photography Club and the Edinburgh Square Heritage & Culture Centre have partnered together to offer an annual exhibition of our members’ photography. The Gallery runs from April 13th through to May 18th\, 2024. \n\n\n\nThis year we have 4 themes and they are: \n\n\n\nBlack & White \n\n\n\nPortrait \n\n\n\nWildlife \n\n\n\nLandscape \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis year again we have two options for submitting photos. A framed print (this is our preference)\, or a digital photo\, which will be displayed on a loop on the TV in display room. The framed/canvass photo must have a wire across the back for secure hanging. If the photo is on Foam Core\, we can secure it to the wall using command strips. If you have named your photo\, include that along with your name and if applicable the price with each photo\, and Edinburgh Square will print up cards with that info.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony will create a folder in Dropbox for you to submit digital photos (more information on that to follow). \n\n\n\nThe framed photo should be no smaller than 5X7\, 8X10 or larger is preferred. You also have the option of selling your print\, just remember Edinburgh Square will take 30% commission of the selling price. If you don’t want to sell the framed photo you can offer to sell just the print\, but you need to indicate this (also applies to the digital photos). \n\n\n\nRemember we are getting media coverage of this event so let’s fill the room with all your great photos. \n\n\n\nPlease drop off your photos to Edinburgh Square between April 10th-12th2024 between 10AM-4PM. For those that wish to have their photos displayed electronically please submit them using this link\, it will add your name to the file; https://www.dropbox.com/request/ETDXmy6eaVeKifrossv4

SUMMARY:Organizing Your Images
DESCRIPTION:Doors Open at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nPresented by: Peter Charles \n\n\n\nOrganizing our images is one of those busy work things that has to be done but doesn’t produce those good vibes that we get when making those images. However\, fail to organize\, then it doesn’t take much time before we experience the irritation of facing image storage chaos and that we can’t find anything. It’s very frustrating when we can’t find our images afterward\, plus it can be expensive when we constantly are buying more storage capacity for our computers\, that in reality we don’t need. In this presentation we’ll be looking at good organizational methods\, including the idea of reducing the clutter before we even press the shutter release. \n\n\n\nWe’re going to look at four aspects of keeping our images organized: shooting deliberately\, culling viciously\, software solutions and hardware requirements. We’ll look at RAW vs. JPEG file sizes and ask the hard questions about RAW. We’ll look at ways to avoid cluttering up our hard drives with large RAW images that we’ll never use\, for part of image management is to know when to shoot RAW and when not to\, when to save those big RAW files and when to delete them.  \n\n\n\nPros\, out of necessity\, know how to do this as the financial consequences for failing to be organized can put them out of business. As enthusiasts we don’t have that hanging over our heads\, but we can make our photographic lives more enjoyable if we don’t give in to image collection chaos. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the workshop is free for our members and a cost of $20.00 for Non-Members. If a Non-members decides to join then we will reduce the membership fee by $20.00

SUMMARY:March Meeting - Photo Critique Night
DESCRIPTION:Doors Open at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nIn preparation for our Spring Gallery starting in April at Edinburgh Square\, we have decided to have a photo critique night. This is an opportunity for our members that are not sure on how to submit photos\, or would like some feed back on the photos that they are thinking about submitting. This also a good format for some of our members who are just starting put and would like some feedback on the photographs that they have taken. At the meeting we will view each photo and provide you with constructive feedback that will help fine tune your photography skills. I encourage all members to submit some photos. Especially if you’re looking to take your photography skills to the next level\, then a photo critique is exactly what you need. \n\n\n\nYou can drop your images in our Dropbox folder using this link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/IdWnOUNxXLiHPixkAEem

SUMMARY:Low Key Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: The Club is offering a reduction in cost for two shoots involving models to entice members to come out and experience it. Second shoot is currently being worked on it will be a different theme with models. The cost for each shoot is $15.00 each. If you have already paid the Club will credit you the $10.00 that you will be able to use on another shoot. \n\n\n\nWe have scheduled a Low-Key photoshoot\, and the theme is Firefighters.  We have three\, possibly four firefighters that will be available for this shoot.  They range in age from early 20’s through to 40’s.  One will also be a female firefighter.   We will have the room all set up with a black backdrop and all the necessary lights.  It takes time to properly set up the lights so the only changes that will be made throughout this shoot is posing the models.  The models will bring as many props as possible\, an axe\, pick pole\, hard hat\, overcoat\, and pants\, etc.  We are hoping that they can bring their full gear!  We will also have a fog machine set up for added effect. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are asking photographers attending this event to be there for 6:30 pm\, at which time we will go through the equipment set up\, discussing different poses possible within the set up.  We will also review the settings and how to initially set up your camera to capture the low key. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlso\, those that are interested in taking some stock photos\, that can be used to change the background during the editing process can contact Randy Carter\, Randy has arranged for a quick shoot with the Caledonia Fire Dept.  Those interested will meet at the Fire Hall and take stock photos of a fire truck\, and the exterior of the station ahead of the low-key date.  Again\, if you are interested\, please contact Randy Carter for more information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou will need the following equipment:\n\n\n\n\nCamera – must be able to shoot in manual mode.\n\n\n\nWireless Strobe Trigger – must be able to program to different channels and settings.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note if you do not have one\, we will be able to share our triggers.  We will have at least three triggers at the shoot.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact myself\, Tony Maddalena or Randy Carter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPayment is made through e-Transfer. please use the following address HPCtrust1@gmail.com add Lowkey Shoot to comment/note section

SUMMARY:Composing A Photograph
DESCRIPTION:The composition of an image can be an intimidating and daunting problem for the photographic beginner as it can seem to be so nebulous.  \n\n\n\nDespite it seeming to be so subjective\, good composition is well rooted in the geometry of the natural world. There are concrete geometric techniques that we can use that take the mystery out of composition.  \n\n\n\nWe live with this geometry in our own bodies\, so without knowing it we already know it. The challenge is to take this innate knowledge and give it life in our images. In this presentation\, we’ll look at how we can use this geometry in the composition of our images. \n\n\n\nNon-Member Fee of $20 for this session – eTransfer HPCtrust1@gmail.com to attend

SUMMARY:Dog Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Grab your camera and join us for a Dog Photography adventure! \n\n\n\n\n\nSunday October 15th we’ll meet at Cathie Wheeldon’s property in Cayuga for a Dog Photography Workshop! She has 2-3 dogs arranged to be our models\, and we can practice some of those tips & tricks she shared at her presentation – like getting down low (wear comfy clothes!)\, eye contact (she’ll have noise makers!)\, and working to get good expression from the dogs! We’ll set up in a few locations around the property like near the rustic barn\, in the open field\, and along the trails in the woods. We might try to pop into Cayuga too if there is interest and time as there are some stunning spots there! \n\n\n\n\n\nBring your bug spray\, sunscreen\, sturdy shoes\, water\, and your patience! Cathie will give some instructions to get us started and then will be available to help with setting up the dogs\, camera settings\, etc. She’ll have an assistant plus the two dog owners/handlers on hand to work with the dogs and we’ll take turns photographing them in various locations and poses. \n\n\n\nExpect to get a little dirty/slobbery – but isn’t that part of the fun? Hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Printing your Photographs
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Printing – Instructional Lecture\n\n\n\n\n\nPrinting from your computer should be simple\, yet we struggle with colour issues. Learn how to calibrate your system and how to prepare files for printing. Learn to soft proof and how to use paper profiles\, whether you are printing yourself or taking files to an outside lab (like Costco). Only then will the results be predictable and repeatable\, saving on ink\, paper and frustration. \n\n\n\nThis presentation is timely in that we are planning on hosting another Photo Gallery Exhibition at Edinburgh Square next Spring.  Come out and join us as we start back up with our Club meetings. \n\n\n\nNon-Member Fee of $20 for this session – eTransfer HPCtrust1@gmail.com to attend
