It’s important to capture those unique quirks\, personality traits\, and individual characteristics so that their story can shine through! I know how important dogs are to their owners – they’re family! I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to preserve the memories and special moments of cherished dogs for fellow dog lovers. Producing personalized wall art\, albums or other artwork that can be enjoyed for many years to come is a way to keep them with us always.  \nMy photography sessions are relaxed\, outdoors\, and completely dog-led. There’s no pressure to sit still or perform — we move at the dog’s pace\, allowing time to explore\, sniff\, and settle in naturally. This approach creates genuine expressions\, natural movement\, and images that truly reflect the dog’s personality. Combined with changing seasons\, beautiful\, and often epic\, locations\, every session is one-of-a-kind! \nWe’ll be chatting about the pet photography genre and I’ll share tips and tricks for working with animals. Safety is very important as is making sure that the animals are comfortable as their expression is key for their images! Animal handling\, management\, attention getters and use of light are just some of the tips I’ll be sharing. I’ll also discuss some editing techniques (and how to make that part of the job easier by considering a few things during the session!)\, as well as my approach to sessions with specific artwork in mind. Whether you’re looking to improve your dog photography or would like to take better photos of your own pet\, I’m happy to share some info to help you to build on your skills! \n  \nCathie Wheeldon – Wheeldon Photography \nCathie Wheeldon has been a Pet Professional for nearly 40 years\, including as a Professional Dog Trainer\, the owner of Hug-a-Pup Dogsitting Services\, a foster home with Border Collie Rescue Ontario\, the manager of Ryan’s Pet Food\, and now as a Dog Photographer with Wheeldon Photography. \nHer family includes her husband\, Simon\, their daughter\, Etta\, their Border Collies\, Zoinks & Retro\, a flock of Runner Ducks\, and two Cockatiels! They are lucky to live on a 21-acre wooded property just outside of Cayuga. \nCathie moved from her hometown of Stratford to Hamilton in 1992 to attend Mohawk College where she achieved her Diploma in Applied Music as a Jazz Vocal major (her only “stray” from animals!!). \nIn 1997 she apprenticed with McCann Professional Dog Trainers where she became a full-time Head Instructor and fell in love with dog training\, teaching\, and dog sports. She has been active in Flyball and Disc Dog\, and Cathie has done extensive training in Agility\, Obedience\, and Herding. Besides teaching\, she and her dogs performed as part of the McCann Dogs team in their Agility and Flyball performances at various venues including The Royal Winter Fair\, Ontario Place\, All About Pets\, and The Sportsman Show. While teaching at McCann’s\, she started her in-home boarding business\, Hug-a-Pup Dogsitting Services\, which became her full-time job\, and is now in its 24th year! \nCathie has continued to further her dog training education over the years and has embraced a game-focused\, positive reinforcement approach that she loves. She knows that an understanding of dog behaviour and a focus on relationship building is so very important when dealing with dogs\, and she works hard to develop trust and a connection with each dog she works with. Her many years of experience have helped her to provide an enriching and positive environment where dogs feel safe and relaxed. \nCathie is now an experienced Dog Photographer and is able to use all of these skills and years of experience to create meaningful artwork of her client’s beloved pets. DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a fun night of hands-on shooting with a food theme. We will begin the meeting with a brief ‘how to’ and then break into groups and rotate between the stations.\nWe will be shooting 3 different stations\, 2 will be using strobes and 1 will be using constant lighting \n\nWater Splash\nSteam\nPoppin’ Popcorn\n\nWhat you will need:\n·      Godox Flash trigger if you have one or find a buddy you can share with\n·      Camera trigger – you will be dropping items and pressing the shutter button at the same time (or work with a partner if you do not have one)\n·      Tripod\n·      Lens cloth as we will be working with water splashes\n·      A notebook\, there will be lots of tips and tricks \nImportant to know before you get there:\n·      know how to change the channel on your flash trigger as we will be using it for 2 different stations\n·      you will need to know how adjust ISO\, Aperture and shutter speed for the different stations\, the starting ranges will be provided for each station\n·      you will need to know how to set your camera to manual focus \nExtras:

His background includes an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (Studio) with specialties in photography and sculpture.  He has been photographing for 40 years and has extensive experience in film\, developing and processing film and prints in black and white\, colour\, and non-silver processes.   He worked in the display department of the Museum of Civilization (when it was called that.) \nGerald’s landscapre presentation is geared toward  both beginners and more advanced landscape enthusiasts. DESCRIPTION:Please Note that this presentation has been moved to Thursday Nov 20 \nMeet Connie Smith\, our presenter \nWith the first trip\, I had just retired after 33 years or working at Hydro One/Ontario Hydro and decided to treat myself to something that was on my Bucket List…a trip to South Africa.  I booked my trip with Approach Tours and enjoyed it so much\, that I decided to apply to be a Group Guru (Tour Leader) a couple months after I returned.  Once hired\, they asked if I would mind going back to South Africa as my first trip as a Guru.  How could I say no to something that I thoroughly enjoyed.  October 2024 I was back on the plane to South Africa with 25 adults aged 55+ guests. \nConnie will be presenting her  her first hand account of photographing on safari!  Get ready to go wild as she gives us some tips on her adventure tales!! \nDoors open at 6:30 pm\, Meeting starts at 7 pm

DESCRIPTION:Now that we have mastered the basics\, join us as we learn more about Digital Photography with guest speaker Peter Charles. \nPlease bring your cameras along for this 2 hour presentation style workshop on Intermediate Digital Photography. Peter will run a slide show with examples as he covers the following topics: \nExposure– metering modes\, histograms\, dynamic range\, clipping and noise \nAutofocus– AF modes\, object and face detection\, tracking and more \nWhite Balance– light spectrum\, various lighting types\, eyes vs sensors\, saving custom WB  \nPeter will also help us to explore setting up custom recipes for photo captures in various scenarios. With enough time there will be some hands on opportunities to go over these in camera. \n\nArrive to the meeting for 6:30 pm so members can be briefed on updates as well as review our monthly challenge submissions.  We hope for Peter to commence the workshop for 7pm.\nDon’t forget to sign up! SUMMARY:November Monthly Meeting - Basic Photo Editing Techniques using Photoshop as an example!
DESCRIPTION:Before editing ( as is from Camera)\, Picture below is after editing\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNovembers monthly meeting\, we will be covering the basic Photo Editing Techniques. Such as cropping\, straightening\, sharpening\, colour\, healing brush and so much more. For this workshop we will be using Photoshop as our editing program. Please keep in mind that most editing software have many similar editing features. An image or 2 will be provided so that the group can follow along using the same image as we work with each edits. If you have a laptop I would encourage you to bring it along. If you have Photoshop (PS)\, great. If you do not have PS you can sign up for the 7 day trial for free. Try to get the free trial a day or so before the meeting for it does expire after 7 days. You should be able to follow along if you are using another editing program\, we will have a couple of extra people to help if you are using your own program… \n\n\n\nDon’t Forget to bring your laptop with the software you are using or down load Photoshop free 7 day trial two days before the meeting! \n\n\n\nWith edits we turn ordinary into extraordinary. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6:30 pm\, Riverside Building. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the workshop is free for our members and a cost of $20.00 for Non-Members. If a Non-members decides to join then we will reduce the membership fee by $20.00

SUMMARY:Summer’s Best! September Monthly Meeting...
DESCRIPTION:For our September meeting we are asking members to submit 3 images into our Dropbox “Summers Best Photos” folder ( click on this link to upload – https://www.dropbox.com/request/OvclpB9qZcYyr72MfYQw ).  The images will be critiqued by our distinguished panel of judges and the attending members.  The goal for this meeting is to showcase our member’s work and have it commented on in terms of technical (composition\, exposure\, etc.) and narrative qualities. \n\n\n\nThis is not intended as a critique but as feedback and constructive input into how the image resonates with viewers\, and where desired\, how it can be modified / improved on.  The panel will comment on style and impact\, technical and artistic value. \n\n\n\nWe’ve been busy taking photographs for most of the year\, and it would be great to see a spectrum of everyone’s work to illustrate / share our progress\, and it will also help improve our skills.    \n\n\n\nThe subject matter is unrestricted\, but please have some consideration to the nature of the crowd and error on the side of good taste.  If time permits (based on the number of images submitted)\, we will have a general discussion on events/speakers/workshops that members would like to see happen.  Please register for this meeting so that we will have an idea of how many members will be attending and submitting photographs.

SUMMARY:Still Life Photography Workshop - July 11\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Photograph by Sue Jane Glover\n\n\n\nPhotograph by Sue Jane Glover\n\n\n\nPhotograph by Sue Jane Glover\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have our meeting room at the Fairgrounds booked on July 11th\, 2024\, and turning into a studio.  We will be setting up the lights to do “Still Life Photography”.   We will have a few props that we can set up\, but everyone is encouraged to bring props that you would like to set up and take photos. \n\n\n\nAs mentioned\, we will provide some items that can be used as props\, backdrop (black)\, lights with soft box.  Our light system uses Godox triggers and we do have members that have the following Godox triggers\, Nikon\, Sony (we have a spare Sony)\, and Cannon. \n\n\n\nIf there is something special that you would like to use and set up for the Still Life Photo\, please feel free to bring it and we can help you set it up.  This will be a great experience in learning how to set up and shoot a Still Life Photograph.

DESCRIPTION:A picture is worth a thousand words. And with the range of editing software and technology available on the market today\, you might say photos have increased their worth a thousand-fold. A nicely edited photo could be worth a million words (or a million dollars\, in some cases)! \n\n\n\nHalf the battle when it comes to good photography lies in editing. Blips\, wrinkles\, shadows\, blurs and even colors can all be altered so realistically an objective viewer would not be the wiser. In other words\, a bad photograph can be transformed\, and bad photos can be salvaged\, to a point! Magic can be created with a few clicks of the mouse or swipes of the tablet. \n\n\n\nPlease join us as we walk you through basic editing to enhance your photos. In this presentation we will be using and showing you H0W TO USE SNAPSEED TO ENHANCE AND EDIT YOUR PHOTOS – Added bonus – The software is free! The tools found in Snapseed are similar to other editing software and we ill discuss the similarities.Snapseed is a free photo editing app that comes loaded with image manipulation tools and presets that are quite easy to use. The app is supported by Google\, which is a plus when it comes to quality and reputation. SUMMARY:Organizing Your Images
DESCRIPTION:Doors Open at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nPresented by: Peter Charles \n\n\n\nOrganizing our images is one of those busy work things that has to be done but doesn’t produce those good vibes that we get when making those images. However\, fail to organize\, then it doesn’t take much time before we experience the irritation of facing image storage chaos and that we can’t find anything. It’s very frustrating when we can’t find our images afterward\, plus it can be expensive when we constantly are buying more storage capacity for our computers\, that in reality we don’t need. In this presentation we’ll be looking at good organizational methods\, including the idea of reducing the clutter before we even press the shutter release. \n\n\n\nWe’re going to look at four aspects of keeping our images organized: shooting deliberately\, culling viciously\, software solutions and hardware requirements. We’ll look at RAW vs. JPEG file sizes and ask the hard questions about RAW. We’ll look at ways to avoid cluttering up our hard drives with large RAW images that we’ll never use\, for part of image management is to know when to shoot RAW and when not to\, when to save those big RAW files and when to delete them.  \n\n\n\nPros\, out of necessity\, know how to do this as the financial consequences for failing to be organized can put them out of business. As enthusiasts we don’t have that hanging over our heads\, but we can make our photographic lives more enjoyable if we don’t give in to image collection chaos. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the workshop is free for our members and a cost of $20.00 for Non-Members. This is an opportunity for our members that are not sure on how to submit photos\, or would like some feed back on the photos that they are thinking about submitting.  This also a good format for some of our members who are just starting put and would like some feedback on the photographs that they have taken.  At the meeting we will view each photo and provide you with constructive feedback that will help fine tune your photography skills. I encourage all members to submit some photos.
